The Consequence of Decisions

The project encompasses work and research stretching from the beginning of 2012 until today. The project started off with the notion of computing the decisions made in the process of drawing and questioning whether the author can create by executing predetermined rules. This concept is seen through a variety of media: the first, a series of small format drawings, followed by large format drawings, an installation and animations.

The installation uses a drawing originally made on a piece of paper, set in a spatial environment based upon a set of decisions which determine the lines made. The decisions use the proximity of randomised points that lead to different consequences chosen affecting the strength of the connections, depth and alterations in colour. The work tackles the notion of the author executing a list of instructions as opposed to a computer program. Building up to the goal, the questions of persistence, invariability and the demand of an aestheticized structure are put to the test, juxtaposing the two systems.
